How to make a well balanced cup of coffee with a French press.

Do you have a French press? Do you know that you can have a great cup of coffee with this inexpensive brewer?
In this recipe, we will forego the traditional French press method in favor of the cupping method, which is well-suited for this brewer.

What is the Cupping Method?

The cupping method is a standardized way of tasting and evaluating coffee. It involves steeping coffee grounds in hot water and then tasting the brew to assess its flavor profile.

OK, what do you need for this recipe?

- A French press, of course
- A scale (for consistency)
- A kettle (if it has a temperature gauge even better)
- A grinder
- 2 tablespoons
- 40 grams of whole bean coffee (freshly roasted)
- 700 grams of water.

Process

Let's start with grinding 40 grams of freshly roasted Kyrie Eleison Coffee (approx. 6 Tbsp). Investing in a scale can significantly enhance your coffee experience; it's a worthwhile addition to your brewing toolkit. Here is a link to one. Aim for a medium-coarse grind (not too fine, not too coarse). For best results, use a burr grinder.

Heat the water to 200 degrees F. Then place the ground coffee into the French press and add 700 g of your preheated water, roughly equivalent to two mugs.

Now, let it sit there for 4 min. A thick crust is going to form at the top; do not touch it!

After the 4 min have passed, stir the top gently with a spoon. Particles are going to precipitate, leaving a thin foam on the top.

Remove the foam with one or two spoons

until it looks like this:

Now, let it rest for 5 to 8 min. (the longer the better). Do not cover the coffee. At the end of this process the temperature is going to be perfect for drinking.

Ready to serve

Put on the top of the French press but DO NOT push the piston all the way down, just until it touches the coffee. You don't want to agitate the coffee that settled on the bottom, you just need to stop the particles coming into your cup.

This recipe should be enough for two mugs. Serve.

Relax and enjoy!
